ans vs daozor
0 - 2
Map: DM6
ans 10 - 18 daozor

comment by ans
I stopped short of complaining about this game, simply because it didn't really affect the outcome, I'm just aggrieved at the attitude and gamesmanship displayed by daozor. Playing from the UK, being matched up to a Russian player, it is always difficult to find a fair server and we spent about 30 minutes trying to find one that was equal. Daozor seemed to think that a server where he pinged 37 and I pinged 79 was fair (IOP) which I obviously disagreed and after trying in excess of 8 servers (even discounting one where I had a 5 ms advantage (yes, five)), we finally settled on this one. While he might only have an 11ms advantage in the screenshot (and it's a very 'friendly' screenshot for him, his ping averaged in the mid 40s) when this server was tested he maintained a very solid 71. This 71 suddenly dropped to the mid 40s when the game started.

I'm not blaming this for the loss, I'm used to losing, it happens often, and 99/100, daozor would beat me on any map, that's not the issue. I take great exception to this blatant gamesmanship which someone has taken the trouble to exact simply to gain an advantage over someone as shit as me. It's lame, unsporting and just a downright dirty tactic that, for me, took the shine off the entire game which was very competitive until the last 2 minutes when I was chasing him down and rushing him as he had a 2 frag lead.

Like I said at the start, the result is not in question, it's the manner of the victory. Considering he had to be prompted to say 'gg' or 'pld' at the end of it, this should serve as a warning to his future opponents that they should consider getting an admin to oversee the server selection and don't expect any niceties.

I dropped with 1 minute to go because I asked daozor to quit with the smilies every time he got a kill. He managed a full 2 minutes before the urge overcame him and I left.

While it may be considered lame to drop, albeit with less than 60 seconds to go, I was getting extremely irritated with his patronising, unneccesary crap. If you played someone at a real sport, face to face, and after every point they scored, they laughed in your face, eventually you'd smack their teeth in. Unfortunately that option wasn't open to me so I did what I said I would do and disconnected. That is why I said 'I told you' and then 'cya'.

Smiles and jokes should always be between friends and people you know. Doing it to a total stranger is tantamount to taunting and really has no place in a computer game. Coupled with the problem detailed in my first comment, I was less than inclined to ignore it. Bite me.

smiles are like gg in the end of the game. Ignored :) anyway, i understand ans; smiles can be a way of taunt. heheh ;)

You two coped with ping real well. I hope the other players follow your behaviour.

It's always hard to judge a situation when only knowing one side of the story. If ans isn't exaggerating or lying, which I doubt he is doing, then i can completly agree with everything he wrote and think it's good that he's warning daozor's future opponents. Of course Quake is only a game, but nevertheless it's better if games take place in a fair environment. And you guys shouldn't forget that ans even said that daozor was the better player ("I'm used to losing, it happens often, and 99/100, daozor would beat me on any map"). It's not even like he complained about spawns or accused daozor of being lucky. I don't think too much of midgame-dropping though.

P.S.: uzhas, you write like a 12 year old.

soma.

ans does play for fun, and never whines.. and i wouldn't say he's whining here, merely stating facts. His opponent is obviously a bad sportsman, and an idiot with an ego. Why would you smile everytime you kill someone? Thats, EVERY time. twats.

to his russian fanboys:

SPAIN 1 - RUSSIA 0

"Ans ever tried ignore_opponent 1 ? B<"

Why should I have to make an adjustment to a rude and patronising opponent?

I'd just like to re-iterate that it's not a whine, if it was a whine I'd be, well, whining. I'm relating the story of the problems that I had with this opponent so that others can take warning from it and consider this when they come to play him. I've offered no excuse for the loss and will happily concede that even with a 20ms advantage in MY favour I would still lose 99/100.

If you interpret that as whinging, then so be it, your opinion really doesn't mean a great deal to me.

Yes it's a game, but when your opponent has to stoop to this level of gamesmanship and borderline cheating, then it's not me who's no longer playing for fun. If I played to win, I'd have quit a long time ago.

I know really well what ans means. Playing against retarded, non-educated eastern europeans is perhaps the worst thing to happen after swedish HPW's back in 90's. I really appreciate that you brough this lameness out, ans, and hopefully all other Duelmania players will concentrate more on sportsmanship in their upcoming games. I also hope that this Daozor guy gets dropped out of the league really soon.

#13 daozor (82.148.31.xxx) 2004-06-13 01:06:08
yes... i shall lose slam
imho: i wrote smiles basically when killed me, rather then ans!

#14 -insane- (83.27.40.xxx) 2004-06-13 03:32:38
One more thing , if its true that he had 70 ms before the game and ping dropped to 40 in the game that really is lame (WATCH OUT FOR SR PINGDROP ;k). Where can i download demos ?

#15 jacobite (82.2.121.xxx) 2004-06-13 05:40:44
how can you accuse ans of being a lamer? ok so he dropped but as he stated, it was not as if he didn't give any warning about the 'antics' of daozor and also as he said, it was not out of the blue. The fact that he is not whining and stating the facts of what happened ( i mean it's not as if daozor's going to get far - he'll probably get knocked out by me after i beat gamer....) exemplifies that ans is trying to serve a warning to anyone else so they do not fall prey to such gamesmanship (POI: from a personal pov, such ping tweaking (?) actions cross the line into the region of cheating) and not just 'having a whine'. excess posts are not needed on this however - just hoping people will take note of previously mentioned tactics
